Surveen Chawla Describes Her Role in ‘Criminal Justice 4’ as the Emotional Heart of the Series

Mumbai – Actress Surveen Chawla has shared insights into her role in Criminal Justice Season 4, calling her character, Anju Nagpal, the “emotional core” of the show.

Describing Anju as calm and composed on the outside while battling inner turmoil, Surveen said the role was both challenging and emotionally rich. In a conversation with IANS, she opened up about how she prepared for the role and what attracted her to the intense narrative.

“Anju Nagpal is the emotional core, the epicenter of the show,” Surveen explained. “She appears calm and in control, but she’s concealing a storm within her. That suppression and emotional layering made the character deeply compelling for me.”

She added that what drew her to the role wasn't just the character, but also the powerful ensemble and creative team. “The cast—Pankaj ji, Zeeshan, Shweta, Mitaji, Barkha—and even Ira, who plays my daughter, were all incredible. And I had always wanted to work with director Rohan Sippy. When the opportunity came, I didn’t want to miss it,” she said.

Surveen emphasized the importance of the team behind a project. “A script may seem promising, but it’s the cast and crew who bring it to life. A great story can fall flat without the right people behind it. For me, that’s a key factor when deciding to take up any project.”

Criminal Justice Season 4, led by Pankaj Tripathi, also stars Shweta Basu Prasad and is directed by Rohan Sippy. The series is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

Meanwhile, in Rana Naidu Season 2, Surveen returns as Naina, but with a shift in character. “She’s no longer just watching from the sidelines,” Surveen said. “Naina is now asking tough questions and taking control. She wants answers and isn’t afraid to chase them.”

Rana Naidu Season 2, which released on Netflix on June 13, also features Rana Daggubati, Arjun Rampal, Kriti Kharbanda, Sushant Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, and Ashish Vidyarthi.
