India’s smart TV shipments flat in 2025, larger screens and QLED gain share

New Delhi — India’s smart TV shipments remained largely flat year-on-year in 2025, as a sluggish first half was balanced by stronger festive demand later in the year, according to a report by Counterpoint Research. Shipments in the fourth quarter alone grew by about 10 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Televisions priced in the Rs 40,000–Rs 50,000 range outperformed the broader market, reflecting a growing consumer preference for feature-rich models. Larger screen sizes continued to gain popularity, with 43-inch models recording the highest shipments, while TVs sized 55 inches and above drove overall growth.

The report highlighted significant traction for Quantum Dot LED televisions, whose shipments nearly doubled in 2025. Meanwhile, MiniLED TVs saw the fastest growth, albeit from a low base. This expansion was supported by increased availability in key sizes like 43-inch and 55-inch, along with stronger penetration in the mid-range segment.

MiniLED’s growth also reflects brands’ efforts to broaden their portfolios and position the technology as a more affordable alternative to OLED TVs.

According to the research firm, the weak performance in the first half of 2025 was due to subdued consumer sentiment, with many buyers delaying discretionary purchases amid the absence of major promotional events. However, demand improved in the second half, driven by festive discounts, better financing schemes, and improved affordability of larger-screen TVs. A GST rate cut on televisions sized 32 inches and above also supported the recovery.

Anshika Jain, Principal Research Analyst at Counterpoint Research, said the market is expected to see steady growth in 2026 as replacement demand for pandemic-era purchases emerges and larger screens become more affordable.

She added that a potential rise in DRAM and NAND memory prices could increase costs for feature-rich televisions, putting pressure on margins and limiting aggressive pricing strategies in the near term.
