New Delhi — India has arranged additional supplies of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) through alternative routes amid concerns over possible disruptions linked to the ongoing West Asia crisis.
Government officials said shipments sourced from alternative locations are expected to reach the country soon, helping stabilise supply at a time when global energy markets remain volatile.
Alongside securing imports, domestic refiners have stepped up production. LPG output within the country has already risen by around 10 per cent after the government directed oil companies to maximise cooking gas production.
Major energy player Reliance Industries has also ramped up efforts to boost LPG output at its massive refining complex in Jamnagar in Gujarat, which is the world’s largest integrated oil refining hub.
The company said it is optimising refinery operations to increase cooking gas production and ensure stable supplies to Indian households.
“At a time when global energy markets are experiencing volatility, ensuring uninterrupted access to essential fuels for Indian households remains a national priority,” the company said in a statement.
It added that natural gas produced from the KG-D6 basin will be redirected to priority sectors in line with government guidelines to help maintain domestic supply stability.
Meanwhile, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said India is safeguarding its energy security by diversifying import sources beyond West Asia amid rising geopolitical tensions in the region.
According to the minister, India continues to receive energy supplies through multiple routes and sources, helping maintain fuel availability despite the ongoing conflict.
Puri also assured that the government has taken necessary steps to prevent any disruption in supplies for households and essential sectors.
He said domestic consumers are continuing to receive full supplies of compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG), while industries are still getting around 70–80 per cent of their gas requirements despite the challenging global situation.
The minister reiterated that the government remains committed to ensuring affordable and uninterrupted energy supplies for households across the country.
