Gems and Jewellery Exports Surge 19% in November on Strong Christmas Demand

New Delhi — India’s gems and jewellery exports rose sharply by 19 per cent in November, reaching $2.52 billion compared with $2.09 billion in the same month last year, according to industry data. The growth was primarily driven by higher shipments of cut and polished diamonds, as well as gold, silver, and platinum jewellery.

Industry experts noted that the year-on-year rise was aided by a low base in November 2024, when Diwali holidays had forced many manufacturing units to shut down temporarily. Exporters also credited robust Christmas-season demand in key markets such as the US and China, multiple media reports stated.

Despite the strong November performance, overall exports for April–November remained largely unchanged. Shipments for the period stood at $18.86 billion in 2025, essentially flat compared with $18.85 billion in 2024. The data suggests a slow but steady recovery influenced by global market trends and seasonal buying patterns.

Lab-grown diamond (LGD) jewellery continued to gain traction, with exports rising 10 per cent in November to $76 million. However, LGD shipments declined 11 per cent over the April–November period, totalling $757 million.

Cut and polished diamond (CPD) exports grew a robust 38 per cent in November to $919.74 million. Gold jewellery exports touched $1.21 billion for the month, slightly lower than the $1.23 billion recorded a year earlier.

Studded gold jewellery was the standout performer, rising 49.24 per cent to $828 million in November. In contrast, plain gold jewellery exports fell sharply by 42.17 per cent to $390 million during the month. Still, plain gold jewellery posted a 14.78 per cent increase for April–November, reaching $3.53 billion — supported by a 44 per cent rise in global gold prices.

Silver jewellery shipments surged 209 per cent to $198 million in November and climbed 29.69 per cent to $930 million for the April–November span.

Platinum jewellery exports nearly doubled to $30 million in November, benefiting from a 35 per cent rise in global platinum prices.
