Ahmedabad: Adani Power and Adani Green Energy — two key companies under the Adani Group — announced on Friday that they have received Letters of Award (LoA) from the Assam government for two major energy projects worth a combined ?63,000 crore.
Adani Power Ltd, India’s largest private-sector power producer, will invest ?48,000 crore to build a 3,200 MW greenfield ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Assam.
Separately, Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL), the country’s largest renewable energy firm, plans to invest ?15,000 crore to develop two pumped storage projects (PSPs) in the state, with a total planned capacity of 2,700 MW. AGEL has already secured an LoA for 500 MW of energy storage capacity, which will be provided through these PSPs.
Together, the thermal power plant and the pumped storage facilities represent one of the largest private investments in the Northeast.
“The North-East is emerging as a vital frontier in India’s growth story, and we are proud to contribute to its transformation. Our 3,200 MW thermal power project and 2,700 MW PSP projects in Assam not only mark the region’s largest private investment but also strengthen energy security, industrial growth, and job creation,” said Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group.
These major announcements reflect the Group’s focus on accelerating development in India’s northeastern states, reaffirming Gautam Adani’s earlier commitment made in February to invest ?50,000 crore in the region.
“These projects will energise Assam and catalyse progress throughout the entire northeastern corridor. We look forward to building partnerships that uplift communities and support India’s clean energy transition,” Adani added.
Adani Power won the project by offering the lowest tariff of ?6.30 per kWh in a competitive bidding process. The plant will be built under the Design, Build, Finance, Own and Operate (DBFOO) model. Coal linkage for the project has been allocated under the Government of India’s SHAKTI Policy.
The power project is expected to generate 20,000–25,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction, and around 3,500 jobs once operations begin. It will be commissioned in phases starting December 2030.
AGEL also emerged as the lowest bidder for 500 MW of energy storage. The storage projects will play a key role in stabilising the grid, managing peak-hour demand, and supporting renewable energy integration — a major step toward Assam’s clean energy goals.
