Evian: Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) on Wednesday issued a joint declaration addressing major global security challenges, reaffirming their support for Ukraine, welcoming the recent agreement between the United States and Iran, and reiterating their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
On the Ukraine conflict, the G7 leaders pledged their continued support for Kyiv, stating that they remain united in helping the country defend its freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"We, the Leaders of the G7, stand united in our unwavering support for Ukraine in defending its freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity," the joint statement said.

The leaders committed to expanding military assistance to Ukraine, including the supply of additional air defence systems, missile interceptors and long-range capabilities. They also expressed willingness to strengthen Ukraine's domestic defence production through licensing and industrial cooperation.
Describing the current geopolitical situation as a "new momentum," the G7 announced plans to increase pressure on Russia by imposing tougher sanctions, particularly targeting the country's oil and gas sector. The leaders said the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, following a US-backed agreement, had created the right conditions to adopt additional measures.
Welcoming the newly announced agreement between the United States and Iran, the G7 described it as "a historic opportunity" to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons while addressing concerns related to its regional activities and ballistic missile programme.
The leaders reiterated their long-standing position that Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon and voiced support for continued diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
The G7 also endorsed initiatives led by France and the United Kingdom to restore confidence in maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and facilitate the safe resumption of commercial shipping. The leaders stressed that unrestricted freedom of navigation and transit remains vital for global trade.
On regional conflicts, the group called for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and backed efforts to disarm Hezbollah. It also pledged to accelerate humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts in Gaza while calling for an end to violence in the West Bank.

Turning to the Indo-Pacific, the G7 reaffirmed its commitment to a free, open and rules-based regional order. The leaders opposed any unilateral attempts to alter the status quo through force or coercion, particularly in the East and South China Seas and across the Taiwan Strait.
"We reaffirm our opposition to any unilateral attempts to change the status quo, in particular by force or coercion, in the East and South China Seas and across the Taiwan Strait, which should only be resolved peacefully through dialogue," the statement said.
The leaders also expressed serious concern over North Korea's advancing nuclear and ballistic missile programmes and reiterated their commitment to the complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions. They further called for stronger international cooperation to counter North Korea's cryptocurrency theft and cybercrime activities.
The statement concluded with support for global efforts to address economic imbalances and welcomed China's participation in the Global Convergence for Growth Summit hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron earlier this month.
