Tehran: Iran has clarified that no final agreement has yet been reached with the United States, even as diplomatic exchanges between the two countries continue following weeks of negotiations aimed at ending recent hostilities.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said discussions remain ongoing and stressed that Tehran's immediate priority is securing a lasting end to the conflict rather than negotiating technical aspects of its nuclear programme.
Speaking to state-run television, Baghaei stated that issues related to uranium enrichment and Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium are not currently the focus of negotiations.
“Our main focus at this stage is ending the war,” he said, adding that talks are still underway through the exchange of messages between the two sides.
Baghaei also rejected external involvement in decisions concerning the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that the future management of the strategically important waterway is a matter solely for Iran and Oman.
His remarks came after US President Donald Trump publicly outlined a series of conditions that he said would be necessary for any agreement with Tehran.
In a social media post, Trump said Iran must guarantee that it will never develop a nuclear weapon. He also called for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to unrestricted international shipping and demanded the removal of any naval mines that may have been placed in the area.
Trump further stated that the United States, in coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), would oversee the recovery and destruction of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles.
Addressing Iran’s demand for financial compensation linked to the conflict, Trump said no payments would be made "until further notice."
Iran, the United States and Israel entered into a ceasefire agreement on April 8 after nearly 40 days of fighting. Since then, multiple proposals aimed at establishing a framework for a broader settlement have reportedly been exchanged through Pakistani mediation.
According to reports, both sides are working toward finalising a memorandum of understanding, although significant differences remain unresolved.
The latest statements highlight that while diplomatic engagement continues, a comprehensive agreement between Tehran and Washington has yet to be secured.
