Trump Warns of Major Strikes on Iran Amid Rising Tensions

Washington— Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, signalling the possibility of large-scale military strikes if Tehran fails to comply with US demands within a set deadline.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump said Iran could face widespread destruction of critical infrastructure, including power plants and bridges. “If they don’t do something by Tuesday evening, they won’t have any power plants and they won’t have any bridges standing,” he warned, indicating the severity of potential action.

The remarks come at a time of heightened tensions centred around the Strait of Hormuz — a crucial global oil corridor through which nearly 20% of the world’s supply passes. Trump has been pressing Iran to reopen the waterway, underscoring its importance to global energy markets and trade.

Despite the strong rhetoric, Trump suggested that negotiations may still be possible, stating that the situation remains “under control.” His comments reflect a dual-track strategy — combining pressure tactics with the option of diplomatic engagement.

However, the explicit reference to targeting nationwide infrastructure marks a serious escalation in tone, drawing concern from analysts who warn that such actions could significantly intensify the conflict.

The situation remains fluid, with military posturing, diplomatic efforts, and strategic signalling unfolding simultaneously. The US and Iran have long-standing tensions over issues such as nuclear activity, regional influence, and maritime security — with the Strait of Hormuz frequently at the centre of confrontations.

Observers say the latest developments highlight the delicate balance between deterrence and escalation, as both sides navigate a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape.
