The administration of Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against Harvard University, accusing the prestigious institution of failing to address antisemitism on campus.

The complaint, submitted to a federal court in Massachusetts, alleges that Harvard violated the civil rights of Jewish and Israeli students by allowing an environment where harassment and discrimination went unchecked. According to the lawsuit, affected students faced “severe and pervasive” mistreatment based on their race, ethnicity, or national origin, and were effectively denied equal access to educational opportunities.

Federal authorities claim that Harvard leadership was aware of the situation but did not take adequate action, showing what the complaint describes as “deliberate indifference.” The lawsuit further accuses the university of intentional discrimination against Jewish and Israeli students.

This legal action marks a significant escalation in tensions between the federal government and top US universities. Since early 2025, the administration has warned multiple institutions about potential funding cuts if they failed to revise campus policies—particularly those related to antisemitism and diversity programs.

Earlier this year, after Harvard rejected the administration’s demands, the government moved to freeze approximately $2.2 billion in grants along with $60 million in contract funding. In February, President Trump also signaled the administration’s intent to seek up to $1 billion in damages from the university.

The lawsuit now brings the dispute into the courtroom, setting up a high-stakes legal battle that could have broader implications for university governance, campus policies, and federal funding in higher education.
