Amman: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday invited Jordanian companies to partner with India and leverage the advantages of its 1.4 billion-strong consumer market, robust manufacturing ecosystem, and a stable, transparent, and predictable policy environment.
Addressing the India-Jordan Business Forum alongside King Abdullah II, PM Modi said that Jordan’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), combined with India’s growing economic strength, could help create a powerful economic corridor connecting South Asia with West Asia and beyond. Both leaders emphasised the importance of strengthening business-to-business ties and urged industry leaders from both countries to translate existing potential into tangible growth and shared prosperity.
Highlighting India’s position as the fastest-growing major economy and its trajectory towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, the Prime Minister underlined the vast business opportunities India offers to Jordanian partners and global investors alike.
PM Modi proposed doubling bilateral trade between India and Jordan to $5 billion over the next five years. He also said the two countries could work together as trusted supply-chain partners for the global market, identifying key areas of collaboration such as Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), IT, fintech, health-tech, and agri-tech. He encouraged startups from both nations to collaborate and innovate in these emerging sectors.
Noting India’s strengths in pharmaceuticals and medical devices, the Prime Minister said these capabilities, combined with Jordan’s strategic geographical location, could position Jordan as a reliable hub for West Asia and Africa in these sectors.
PM Modi further highlighted opportunities for bilateral cooperation in agriculture, cold chain infrastructure, food parks, fertilisers, infrastructure development, automobiles, green mobility, and heritage and cultural tourism. Emphasising India’s commitment to sustainability, he also called for closer collaboration in renewable energy, green financing, desalination, and water recycling.
