Death Toll from Typhoon Bualoi in Vietnam Rises to 11

Hanoi – The death toll from Typhoon Bualoi in Vietnam has risen to 11, with 13 people still missing and 33 injured, local media reported.

In northern Vietnam’s Ninh Binh province, six people were killed and seven injured. The storm also destroyed 10 houses and damaged the roofs of another 10. About 30 electricity poles were toppled, and numerous trees and rice fields were flattened, according to VnExpress citing the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment.

Seventeen people remain missing in Quang Tri and Gia Lai provinces, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said. Additionally, two fatalities were reported in Hue city and Thanh Hoa province due to floods and falling trees.

In central Ha Tinh province, strong winds and downpours caused the roof of a coal storage facility at a thermal power plant to collapse, with repairs expected to take several months.

Typhoon Bualoi is expected to be the 10th typhoon to affect Vietnam this year, following Typhoon Ragasa earlier in September. Authorities have urged close monitoring of forecasts, safety measures for fishing vessels, mobilization of rescue teams, and precautions against floods, flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable areas.
