Drone Strike Targets Police Station in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – Fifth Attack in a Month

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – A drone strike targeted the Miryan Police Station in Pakistan’s troubled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, marking the fifth such attack on the same facility within a month, police officials confirmed on Sunday.

According to reports, a high-altitude drone dropped ammunition on the police station in the Bannu district. Although the attack caused no casualties or structural damage, authorities admitted they were unable to intercept or bring down the drone, which flew beyond the effective range of their defenses.

“This is the fifth quadcopter attack on this police station in just one month,” police said, underscoring growing concerns over the increasing use of drones by militant groups in the region.

Officials noted a sharp rise in the deployment of advanced quadcopters in recent months, raising alarms among security agencies operating in the volatile area along the Afghan border.

In response to the latest incident, security has been intensified across the Bannu region and a search operation is currently underway.

The drone strike came just a day after a separate assault on the Serai Gambila Police Station in the Lakki Marwat district on Friday night. Nearly a dozen armed militants surrounded the station and attacked it using both light and heavy weaponry.

Located near the Peshawar-Karachi Highway by the Gambila River, the Serai Gambila Police Station has been targeted multiple times in the past, according to officials.

Security forces suspect these attacks are part of a broader shift in tactics by militant groups, particularly the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has intensified its operations in recent months.

These incidents follow a deadly bombing on July 2 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district, where a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) struck a government convoy.

The blast, which occurred near the Phatak Mela area along Nawagai Road, killed four people — including Assistant Commissioner of Nawagai Faisal Sultan, another senior government official, and two policemen. The explosion targeted a double-cabin vehicle carrying the officials, killing all four on the spot.
