Tel Aviv: Just hours after former US President Donald Trump claimed a ceasefire had been reached between Iran and Israel, missile sirens blared across parts of Israel as fresh attacks from Iran were reported.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed multiple incoming missile threats, saying that air defense units were actively engaged in intercepting the projectiles. According to emergency services, a ballistic missile struck a building in Beersheba, although no injuries were immediately reported.
Emergency response organization Magen David Adom dispatched teams to the site to assess damage and ensure public safety.
The renewed strikes came in sharp contrast to Iran’s earlier declaration that it had halted all military operations against Israel as of 4 a.m. local time. However, Iranian officials stressed that this ceasefire was conditional, depending on Israel also suspending its military operations.
This contradictory messaging came shortly after Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social, claiming that both Iran and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire, following Iranian missile attacks on US military bases in Qatar.
In his post, Trump stated that hostilities would cease, with Iran initiating the truce and Israel to follow 12 hours later, leading to the formal end of what he dubbed the “12-Day War.”
But Tehran quickly denied receiving any formal proposal from the US regarding a ceasefire. Iran’s Foreign Minister reiterated that Iran’s military pause was unilateral and conditional, insisting that Israel had started the conflict, and that further Iranian restraint would only continue if Israel de-escalated in kind.
As of now, Israel has not released any official statement responding to Trump’s ceasefire announcement or Iran’s latest missile attack.
The current conflict, now in its 12th day, began with Israel’s launch of "Operation Rising Lion", which targeted Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure. What followed has been a relentless exchange of missile strikes, with Iran reportedly suffering around 400 casualties, while Israel has reported 24 deaths so far.
Tensions escalated further when the US entered the conflict, carrying out precision strikes on three major Iranian nuclear sites: Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. The move triggered a wave of alerts and heightened readiness across the Middle East.
