The investigation into alleged irregularities in Jharkhand’s JPSC-JSSC recruitment examinations has widened further, with police now questioning members of former TDPL official Abhay Tiwari’s family.
A special team of Giridih Police reached Tiwari’s residence on Tuesday and brought his brother Akshay Tiwari and wife to the police station for questioning. The two are reportedly being questioned separately. Police have not yet released detailed information about the purpose or findings of the questioning.
Abhay Tiwari has emerged as an important figure in the ongoing investigation. He previously worked as a marketing manager with examination agency TDPL and has been questioned by the CID in connection with alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.
According to information emerging from the investigation, Akshay Tiwari and Abhay Tiwari’s wife had both cleared the JSSC-CGL examination and secured government jobs. Investigators are also looking into reports that both had qualified in JPSC examinations.
Their examination records and professional backgrounds are therefore likely to be examined as part of the broader probe. However, their success in recruitment examinations by itself does not establish any wrongdoing, and any connection with alleged irregularities would have to be established through evidence gathered during the investigation.
The inquiry has expanded beyond the JSSC-CGL examination following allegations concerning other examinations conducted through TDPL. During the CID investigation, Abhay Tiwari is reportedly said to have provided information about alleged irregularities in the JSSC PGTTCE examination.
The computer-based PGT teacher recruitment examination, conducted for 3,120 posts, is also under scrutiny after investigators reportedly found indications of possible irregularities.
The CID had conducted a search at the JSSC office on Monday as part of the investigation. The developments came around the same time as the Hemant Soren Cabinet decided to cancel the JSSC-CGL examination and other examinations conducted by TDPL.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren had earlier said that the investigations conducted so far by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and CID had brought several significant findings to light and indicated possible irregularities in the examination process.
The questioning of Abhay Tiwari’s brother and wife marks another step in the expanding investigation. Investigators are expected to examine their examination records, recruitment details and other relevant information to determine whether there is any link between their cases and the alleged irregularities under investigation.
For now, there is no official indication that either Akshay Tiwari or Abhay Tiwari’s wife has been accused of any offence. The significance of the questioning will become clearer once investigators establish whether the information obtained from them has any connection with the wider examination controversy.
