Ahead of a crucial round of talks between the Jharkhand government and students protesting alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, the CID on Monday conducted a search at the office of the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) in Namkum.

The action comes amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the JSSC-CGL examination and allegations of irregularities in recruitment processes. According to information available, the CID team examined documents and records related to examinations and appointments and also questioned JSSC Secretary Sudhir Gupta.

Sources said the CID action was based on information and facts that have emerged during its investigation into alleged recruitment-related irregularities. During questioning in a separate JPSC recruitment scam case, arrested accused persons had reportedly spoken about alleged financial transactions and irregularities connected with recruitment processes conducted by the JSSC.

The accused allegedly provided information about irregularities in examinations conducted by the commission for various posts. The CID is now examining relevant records and documents to verify these claims and establish whether there was any manipulation in the examination or recruitment process.

The timing of the search is significant as students have been protesting in Ranchi for the past 24 days over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC examinations. The protesters are demanding cancellation of the disputed JSSC examinations and a CBI investigation into the alleged JPSC paper leak case.

The students have been staging a continuous protest at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium and have also been observing hunger strikes. Their agitation has intensified pressure on the state government to address their demands and introduce stronger safeguards in the recruitment examination system.

The CID's presence at the JSSC office has added a new dimension to the controversy, particularly as the government and student representatives are scheduled to hold another round of talks on Monday.

At this stage, there is no detailed official information about which specific documents were taken into custody by the CID or what information emerged during the questioning of the JSSC secretary. The investigation is still underway, and the allegations will need to be established through documentary and other evidence.

There were also earlier reports of a CID search at the residence of JSSC Secretary Sudhir Gupta in connection with the investigation. The latest action at the commission's office indicates that investigators are examining records directly linked to the functioning of the recruitment examination system.

For the protesting students, the CID investigation could be significant if it leads to concrete findings on the allegations they have been raising. They have repeatedly demanded an impartial investigation and action against anyone found responsible for irregularities.

The government's talks with the students are therefore taking place against the backdrop of both the ongoing investigation and growing pressure from the protesters. If Monday's discussions fail to produce a concrete solution, the students have already announced plans to lay siege to the Chief Minister's residence on August 20.

The coming days could consequently prove important for both the investigation and the wider student movement, particularly if the CID's examination of JSSC records produces evidence relevant to the disputed recruitment processes.
