New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the spirit of "janbhagidari" (people's participation), saying the overwhelming public response to his appeals for conserving fuel, postponing non-essential foreign travel and avoiding gold purchases during the global energy crisis reflects the strength of collective action in India.
Addressing the 135th edition of his monthly radio programme, "Mann Ki Baat", the Prime Minister said the country's greatest strength lies in its people and their willingness to unite during challenging times.
"When a nation's soul resides in its people, and when the people make a collective resolve, no force can stop them from achieving their goals. The power of janbhagidari in nation-building is one of India's greatest strengths, and we witness it time and again," he said.

Referring to the recent tensions in West Asia and their impact on global energy markets, PM Modi recalled the appeals he had made to citizens to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption and imports.
He said he had urged people to postpone buying gold for some time, avoid non-essential foreign vacations, adopt car-pooling wherever possible and encouraged farmers to embrace chemical-free farming and make greater use of organic fertilisers.
Expressing gratitude to citizens, the Prime Minister said people across the country not only accepted his appeal but also shared inspiring examples of how they had contributed.
According to PM Modi, many families informed him that they had decided not to purchase new gold for weddings and instead chose to recycle old jewellery. Others shared that they had postponed their overseas travel plans in response to his appeal.

He also noted that many people had started travelling together through car-pooling or switched to public transport such as buses and metro services, helping reduce petrol and diesel consumption.
The Prime Minister added that reports from different parts of the country also indicated a growing use of organic fertilisers, reflecting a positive shift towards sustainable farming practices.
"I am happy to see that we are facing this global crisis together. I am confident that this spirit of janbhagidari will continue to make our nation stronger," PM Modi said.
