India enjoyed a memorable day in rowing at the 18th Asian Games on Friday, with the men's quadruple sculls team winning gold and two other Indian crews securing bronze medals.
Sawarn Singh, Dattu Bhokanal, Om Prakash and Sukhmeet Singh produced a strong performance in the men's quadruple sculls final, clocking 6 minutes 17.13 seconds to finish at the top of the field.
Hosts Indonesia took silver with a time of 6:20.58, while Thailand finished third in 6:22.41.
The victory was particularly significant for Indian rowing as it was only the country's second gold medal in the sport at the Asian Games. The first came in 2010, when Bajrang Lal Takhar won the men's singles sculls title.
India's rowers continued their impressive showing with two bronze medals in the lightweight events.
Dushyant, who had also won bronze at the 2014 Asian Games, finished third in the men's lightweight single sculls. The 25-year-old clocked 7:18.76 in the final.
South Korea's Hyunsu Park won the gold in 7:12.86, while Hong Kong's Hin Chun Chiu took silver in 7:14.16.
India's second bronze of the day came in the men's lightweight double sculls, where Bhagwan Singh and Rohit Kumar finished third with a time of 7:04.61.
Japan's Masayuki Miyaura and Masahiro Takeda won the gold, while South Korea's Byumhoon Kim and Minhyuk Lee secured silver.
However, the day ended on a disappointing note for India's women's four crew. The Indian team finished sixth and last in the final, with China taking gold in 7:05.50. Vietnam won silver in 7:14.52, while hosts Indonesia claimed bronze in 7:19.02.
The three medals from rowing added significantly to India's medal haul and underlined the country's growing strength in a sport that has traditionally been dominated by a handful of Asian powers.
