Colombo — India’s commanding 88-run victory over Pakistan in the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday sparked a wave of celebrations across the nation, drawing praise from political leaders and former cricketers alike.
Led by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, Team India posted 247 runs on a slow surface before bowling out Pakistan for just 159, securing their 12th straight win against the arch-rivals in women’s ODIs. The emphatic result also propelled India to the top of the points table in the eight-team tournament.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the performance, calling it a “perfect strike.” He posted on X: “A perfect strike. Dominating display of India’s cricketing might by our Women’s Cricket team in today’s match in the ICC Women’s World Cup. The nation is proud of our team. Best wishes for your upcoming matches.”
BCCI President Mithun Manhas echoed the excitement, writing on X: “A totally one-sided game!! With this win, it’s 12-0. Well played @BCCIWomen, way to go.”

India’s success was built on standout performances from fast bowler Kranti Gaud and off-spinning all-rounder Deepti Sharma, both claiming three wickets each. Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh added an unbeaten 35 in the closing overs, while Harleen Deol top-scored with a composed 46.

India will next take on South Africa at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam on October 9, followed by a crucial clash against defending champions Australia at the same venue on October 12.
