Formula 1 Confirms Six Sprint Venues for 2026 Season

New Delhi: Formula 1 on Tuesday unveiled the six venues that will host Sprint events during the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship — with three circuits set to feature the format for the first time.

The 2026 campaign, which marks the start of a new regulatory era, will also be the sixth year of the Sprint format. Shanghai will stage the first Sprint of the season, followed by Miami, both hosting the format for a third consecutive year.

Silverstone returns to the Sprint calendar for the first time since the concept debuted in 2021, while Montréal, Zandvoort, and Singapore will each make their Sprint weekend debut.

“F1 Sprint weekends deliver four competitive sessions compared to two at a regular Grand Prix, creating more action for fans, broadcasters, and promoters,” said Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1 president and CEO. “With three new venues joining the schedule in 2026, we expect even more drama as the new regulations take effect.”

The Sprint format ensures competitive track action across all three days of a race weekend: Sprint Qualifying takes place on Friday after Free Practice 1, followed by the Sprint and Grand Prix Qualifying on Saturday, before Sunday’s Grand Prix finale.

Formula 1 highlighted that Sprint weekends continue to draw strong audiences globally. In 2024, Sprint weekends saw an average 10% higher TV viewership than traditional formats. Data from 2025 has shown continued growth — including Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari victory in the Shanghai Sprint, which generated an 84% increase in live TV audience across F1’s top 15 markets, and Lando Norris’ Miami Sprint win, watched by 26.6 million viewers worldwide.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem praised the format’s impact: “The Sprint has become an exciting part of the championship, delivering high-intensity racing and additional entertainment. As we approach the landmark 2026 season with new cars and regulations, the evolution of the Sprint reflects the passion of fans, promoters, and teams. We will continue refining it to ensure it enhances the championship.”
