US Open: Sabalenka Retains Title with Win Over Anisimova

New York- Aryna Sabalenka cemented her dominance at the top of women’s tennis on Saturday, defeating Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 7-6(3) to clinch her second straight US Open title. With this victory, she becomes the first woman since Serena Williams in 2014 to successfully defend the singles crown at Flushing Meadows.

The top seed and reigning champion delivered a commanding yet composed performance against the eighth-seeded American, securing her first Grand Slam title of 2025 and the fourth major of her career. The triumph also marked her 100th career Grand Slam main-draw win and her 56th victory of the season — more than any other player on tour this year.

Sabalenka had fallen just short in the finals of both the Australian Open and Roland Garros earlier this year. On Saturday, however, she displayed grit and determination to overcome Anisimova, who was contesting her second consecutive Grand Slam final.

The opening set featured five service breaks, but Sabalenka gained the crucial edge by breaking Anisimova a third time to lead 5-3, then closed out the set after a forehand error from her opponent.

In the second set, Sabalenka appeared on the verge of victory while serving at 5-4, but a missed overhead at 30-all allowed Anisimova to break back and extend the contest to a tiebreak. Undeterred, Sabalenka took charge of the breaker and sealed the win on her third championship point.

Anisimova, who had beaten Sabalenka in the Wimbledon semifinals earlier this year, entered the final with a 6-3 advantage in their head-to-head record. Despite the loss, she is projected to make her Top 5 debut in the PIF WTA Rankings.
