Asian U19 Boxing Championship: Nisha, Muskan Strike Gold as Nine Indian Women Medal

Bangkok — India’s young women boxers delivered a stellar performance at the 2025 Asian U19 Boxing Championships in Bangkok, with Nisha (54kg) and Muskan (57kg) clinching gold and five others taking silver on Sunday.

Of the 10 Indian women in the U19 competition, nine returned with medals — 2 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze — reinforcing India’s emergence as a boxing powerhouse alongside Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and China.

Nisha secured India’s first gold of the day, stepping up in the final round to overpower China’s Sirui Yang for a 4:1 win. Muskan followed with another gold, using an aggressive approach to edge past Kazakhstan’s Ayazhan Ermek in a close 3:2 split decision.

The championships, held for both U19 and U22 categories, serve as a key platform for India’s rising talent to compete against Asia’s best. India has fielded 40 boxers in total — 20 in each category — blending proven champions with promising newcomers from the domestic circuit.

Three Indian men will contest the U19 finals later in the day, while in the U22 division, India is assured of 13 medals, with five boxers set to fight for gold on Monday.

In other women’s finals, Vini (60kg) lost to Uzbekistan’s Sevara Mamatova, while Japan’s Arinda Akimoto defeated Nisha (65kg) 4:1. In the higher weight divisions, Aarti Kumari (75kg) fell to China’s Tongtong Gu, Kritika Wasan (80kg) was edged 2:3 by Kazakhstan’s Kuralay Yeginbaikyzy, and Parchi Tokas (80+kg) lost by the same margin to Uzbekistan’s Sobirakhon Shakhobidinova.
