Wimbledon: Jannik Sinner Clinches First Championship Title with Commanding Win Over Alcaraz

London – Jannik Sinner captured his maiden Wimbledon title on Sunday with a commanding 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory over defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, becoming the first Italian man ever to win the singles crown at The Championships.

Just five weeks after a heartbreaking loss to Alcaraz in the French Open final—where he squandered three championship points—Sinner showed remarkable composure to reverse the outcome in front of a packed Centre Court. The 23-year-old World No. 1 handed Alcaraz his first defeat in a Grand Slam final, ending the Spaniard’s flawless 5-0 major final record and snapping a five-match losing streak against him.

Sinner sealed the win in three hours and four minutes of high-quality tennis, asserting control with his aggressive baseline play and strong serving. After dropping the first set, he broke Alcaraz early in each of the next three sets, steadily building momentum. Targeting Alcaraz’s forehand with relentless precision, Sinner forced errors and capitalized on the Spaniard’s diminishing rhythm.

With this triumph, Sinner now holds four Grand Slam titles and only needs the French Open to complete a career Grand Slam. He also extends his lead at the top of the PIF ATP Rankings, sitting 3,430 points ahead of his nearest rival.

Sinner’s journey to the final was not without obstacles. He tied the Open Era record for the fewest games lost across the first three rounds, but faced a scare in the fourth round when Grigor Dimitrov retired due to a pectoral injury while leading by two sets. Sinner bounced back to dominate Ben Shelton and then overcame Novak Djokovic to reach his fifth Grand Slam final.

In the final’s closing moments, Sinner remained unshaken, converting his first match point and celebrating with arms raised as Centre Court erupted in applause. Alcaraz, who had hoped to become only the second player in history to win Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same season, fell short despite a stellar 48-5 record in 2025.

The Sinner-Alcaraz rivalry now stands evenly poised, with both players splitting the last seven Grand Slam titles.
