India Successfully Tests Pralay Quasi-Ballistic Missile off Odisha Coast

New Delhi- India on Wednesday successfully conducted a salvo launch of two indigenously developed Pralay missiles in quick succession off the coast of Odisha. The missiles were test-fired from the same launcher as part of user evaluation trials, marking a significant milestone in the country’s missile development programme.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the test was carried out at around 10:30 am by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Both missiles precisely followed the intended trajectory and met all flight objectives, as confirmed by tracking sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur.

The test was witnessed by senior DRDO scientists, officers from the Indian Air Force and Indian Army, as well as industry representatives, including the Development-cum-Production Partners.

The Pralay missile is a surface-to-surface, short-range ballistic missile with a strike range of approximately 150 km to 500 km. It is capable of carrying multiple types of warheads against a variety of targets. The missile is a solid propellant, quasi-ballistic system equipped with advanced guidance and navigation technologies to ensure high accuracy, and has been developed entirely within the country.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, the Indian Air Force, the Indian Army, Defence Public Sector Undertakings, and industry partners on the successful test-launch of the missiles in quick succession. He said the successful salvo launch has established the reliability of the Pralay missile system.

The Pralay missile has been developed by the Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, in collaboration with several other DRDO laboratories, including the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, Armament Research and Development Establishment, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Research and Development Establishment (Engineers), and the Integrated Test Range. The Development-cum-Production Partners, Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited, along with other Indian industries, played a key role in system integration for the tests.

DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V. Kamat also congratulated the teams involved in the successful flight-tests, stating that the achievement indicates the system’s imminent readiness for induction by the armed forces.
