BJP launches 'Tiranga Yatra' across country to honour freedom fighters

With India set to celebrate its 80th Independence Day, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday launched Tiranga Yatras across several states, calling the campaign an effort to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters and reinforce the spirit of patriotism.

Party leaders and workers participated in rallies carrying the national flag in states including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The campaign is also being linked to the broader ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative ahead of Independence Day.

Mohan Yadav joins rally in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav participated in a Tiranga Yatra and recalled the freedom struggle, particularly the significance of the Quit India Movement.

“With the call of ‘Quit India’, the world witnessed the longing for freedom within India. It is the duty of every patriotic citizen to remember the sacrifices made by our revolutionaries, martyrs and freedom fighters,” Yadav said.

He added that the campaign had been launched across the country as Independence Day approaches.

“We pray that India remains forever young and that independence remains forever immortal,” the Chief Minister said.

Youth participation highlighted in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said the campaign had received an enthusiastic response from young people across the state.

He also noted that August 9 is observed as Kakori Train Action Day, recalling the historic incident associated with the freedom movement.

“Even before Independence Day, we have seen great enthusiasm among the youth across the state. Today, lakhs of young people came out onto the streets carrying the Tricolour and took a pledge to carry it from booth to booth,” Pathak told IANS.

He said the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign was gaining momentum across Uttar Pradesh.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also participated in the Tiranga rally earlier in the day. Emphasising the role of young people, he said India’s youth have the energy and ability to face the challenges confronting the country.

“Our youth are a symbol of energy. Our youth have the strength to face every challenge for the country,” Adityanath said.

He stressed the need to provide young people with the right opportunities and education so that they can contribute effectively to the country and society.

Rajasthan campaign begins from Jodhpur

In Rajasthan, state Minister Jogaram Patel said the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign would continue throughout Independence Day week.

The campaign began in Jodhpur with a Tiranga rally that drew a large number of participants, Patel said.

He described the national flag as a symbol of patriotism and the ‘Nation First’ spirit, adding that the campaign was also an occasion to remember those who sacrificed their lives during the freedom struggle.

Tiranga Yatra held in Ranchi

Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth participated in the Tiranga Yatra in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

“Through the Tiranga Yatra, the spirit of ‘Nation First’ is being promoted. The Tiranga is our pride, honour and glory,” Seth said.

Jharkhand BJP president Aditya Sahu said the national flag carried the memories of countless sacrifices made during India’s freedom struggle.

“Crores of people had sacrificed their lives for this Tricolour. So many women lost their husbands and children were orphaned. So, to uphold the honour of the Tricolour, the Tiranga Yatra is being held across the country,” Sahu said.

BJP plans wider campaign in West Bengal

In West Bengal, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh participated in a Tiranga rally in Kharagpur and said similar programmes would be organised in other districts.

“Across Bengal, the Tiranga will be taken to every household and placed in every home,” Ghosh said.

He also announced a large carnival in Kolkata on August 10, where a significant number of people are expected to participate.

A day earlier, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign with a march in his Assembly constituency of Bhabanipur.

The BJP said the nationwide Tiranga Yatra is intended to take the national flag to communities across the country while commemorating the freedom struggle and encouraging public participation in Independence Day celebrations.
