Patna: Bihar Police have busted an alleged solver gang involved in the NEET-UG 2026 examination, arresting 30 people for orchestrating a large-scale impersonation racket across multiple examination centres in the state.
The accused allegedly arranged for imposters to appear in the examination in place of genuine candidates by manipulating the biometric verification process, officials said.
According to investigators, the mastermind of the racket is believed to be a student of Pawapuri Medical College in Rajgir. Police claim he recruited medical students from various institutions to write the examination on behalf of aspiring medical students.

The gang allegedly charged between ₹10 lakh and ₹12 lakh per candidate. Investigators said an advance payment of ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh was collected, with the remaining amount to be paid after the declaration of results and successful admission into medical colleges.
Police suspect that individuals associated with the biometric verification process were involved in helping the impersonators gain entry into examination centres. Authorities are now investigating how the biometric security system was bypassed.
Officials said all nine alleged "solvers" arrested in the case are medical students. The 30 people taken into custody include the impersonators, medical students, personnel linked to the biometric verification agency and other alleged members of the network. Several more suspects are currently being questioned.
Lakhisarai Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Shivam Kumar said preliminary investigations indicate that substantial financial deals were struck with candidates seeking admission through fraudulent means.
Police have begun examining bank accounts, mobile phone records and digital transactions to trace the money trail and identify others involved in the operation.
The case was registered following a complaint lodged by Dinesh Kumar Bhagat, Acting Principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Lakhisarai, who was serving as the city coordinator for the NEET-UG examination.
Officials said the investigation is being widened to uncover the full extent of the network, including its financial links and possible involvement at other examination centres. They believe further interrogation of the accused could lead to more arrests and expose additional members of the racket.
