Annamalai Steps Away from BJP, Party Confirms Acceptance of Resignation

New Delhi- Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai has resigned from the party’s primary membership, with the resignation formally accepted by BJP National President Nitin Nabin, according to an official statement issued on Friday.

The confirmation was issued by Arun Singh, National General Secretary and In-charge of the party headquarters, through a press release.

“The National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Hon’ble Shri Nitin Nabin, has accepted the resignation submitted by the Tamil Nadu Ex-State President, Shri K. Annamalai, from the primary membership of the Party,” the statement said.

Annamalai’s exit comes amid growing speculation over his next political move. He is expected to address supporters via social media later in the day, further fuelling anticipation about his future plans.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said, “Tomorrow at around 12 noon, I look forward to meeting all of you through social media, sharing my thoughts, and having an open-hearted conversation.”

A former Karnataka cadre IPS officer, Annamalai resigned from the Indian Police Service in 2019 before entering politics. He joined the BJP in 2020 and quickly rose to prominence, becoming Tamil Nadu BJP president within a year and emerging as one of the party’s most visible leaders in the state.

Sources indicate that Annamalai may be planning to launch a people’s movement focused on identifying and training young leaders in Tamil Nadu, which could potentially evolve into a political party. He already runs a non-profit organisation, “We the Leaders,” which is expected to form the foundation of this initiative.

Reports also suggest that differences over the BJP’s alliance strategy in Tamil Nadu, particularly the renewed partnership with AIADMK, contributed to internal tensions. Annamalai was reportedly in favour of contesting independently rather than aligning with the AIADMK-led bloc.

He is also said to have declined a Rajya Sabha offer and expressed dissatisfaction over being sidelined in the party’s organisational and electoral plans.
