The National Testing Agency on Friday announced that the re-examination of NEET-UG 2026 will be conducted on June 21, following the cancellation of the earlier exam amid allegations of paper leak and malpractice. The decision has been approved by the Government of India, the agency said in an official statement.
Sharing the update on X, the National Testing Agency said that candidates and parents should rely only on official communication channels for authentic information regarding the examination.
Earlier, the agency had cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination held on May 3 after concerns emerged over the integrity of the exam process. Around 22.79 lakh candidates had registered for the medical entrance test this year. The cancellation followed inputs from central agencies and findings shared by law enforcement authorities regarding the alleged paper leak.
Meanwhile, Central Bureau of Investigation has intensified its investigation into the paper leak case. According to officials, four accused persons, including Dinesh Binwal, Mangilal Binwal, Vikas Binwal and Yash Yadav, were brought to Delhi for questioning. Investigators are trying to uncover the larger network allegedly involved in the leak racket.
Search operations were also conducted at multiple locations in Jaipur, where officials seized documents, digital devices and other records linked to the investigation.
In a major policy announcement, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that NEET examinations will shift from the traditional OMR-sheet format to a fully computer-based examination system from 2027. The move is aimed at improving transparency, strengthening security and preventing irregularities in one of the country’s biggest competitive examinations.
The proposed digital examination system is expected to bring stricter monitoring and faster evaluation while reducing the possibility of paper leaks and malpractice in future NEET examinations.
