Tamil Nadu Verdict Takes a Twist: Vijay’s TVK Races Ahead in Early Trends

Chennai — In a dramatic turn of events in Tamil Nadu, actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has surged ahead in the early rounds of counting, positioning itself as a frontrunner in the Assembly elections.

According to initial trends, TVK is leading in around 80 constituencies, overtaking the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), which is ahead in about 54 seats. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA)—comprising the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Bharatiya Janata Party—is trailing with leads in roughly 44 constituencies.

The contest remains intense, with shifting leads in multiple seats. At one point, TVK was ahead in 75 constituencies against DMK’s 66, reflecting the volatile nature of early counting trends.

In key battles, AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami is leading from the Edappadi constituency in Salem district. Meanwhile, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has regained the lead in his stronghold Kolathur after briefly trailing behind TVK’s V.S. Babu in the initial rounds.

In the southern region, former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam is ahead in the Bodinayakkanur constituency, adding further intrigue to the evolving contest.

The early momentum suggests that TVK’s debut election is reshaping Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, challenging the long-standing dominance of Dravidian heavyweights. While these trends are based on initial rounds and postal ballots, they point toward a significant shift in voter sentiment.

With counting still underway across all 234 constituencies, the final outcome remains uncertain. However, TVK’s strong early performance has already set the stage for what could be a landmark election in the state.
