Protests Erupt Outside Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi Over Lynching of Hindu Youth

New Delhi: Protests broke out outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday following the brutal lynching of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district, triggering outrage among various groups in India.

Large numbers of demonstrators gathered outside the diplomatic mission to protest the killing of Dipu Chandra Das, a garment factory worker, who was allegedly lynched by a radical Islamist mob in the Baluka area of Mymensingh after accusations of blasphemy were levelled against him by a Muslim co-worker.

According to reports, Das was attacked on the night of December 18. The mob allegedly beat him to death, hung his body from a tree and later set it on fire over allegations that he had insulted Islam.

The protest in Delhi was led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, who condemned what they described as increasing atrocities against minority communities in Bangladesh. Demonstrators raised slogans and demanded justice for Dipu Das, holding banners and placards highlighting their demands.

Anticipating the protest, Delhi Police had put in place tight security arrangements around the Bangladesh High Commission. Despite heavy deployment, some protesters managed to push past police barricades and attempted to move closer to the diplomatic premises, breaching at least two layers of security barriers, leading to tense moments at the site.

Some demonstrators were also seen burning effigies of Bangladesh’s interim chief, Muhammad Yunus, while others tied shoes around photographs of the Nobel laureate as a symbolic mark of protest.

Security agencies remained on high alert throughout the demonstration, with the area around the High Commission secured through three layers of barricading. Personnel from the police and paramilitary forces were deployed to manage the crowd and prevent any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, authorities in Bangladesh have arrested at least 12 people in connection with the lynching and murder of Dipu Chandra Das, as anger over the incident continues to mount both within the country and internationally.
