DGCA Takes Action Over 19 Safety Violations by Airlines So Far in 2025

New Delhi- India’s aviation regulator has taken action on 19 safety-related violations committed by airlines so far in 2025, Parliament was informed on Monday.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol shared detailed data on airline non-compliance, safety budgets, and staffing gaps across key aviation bodies. The information was provided in response to a question raised in the Lok Sabha.

Mohol said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has intensified enforcement over the past five years.

The number of actions taken against scheduled airlines increased from just two in 2021, to seven in 2022, ten in 2023, twenty-two in 2024, and nineteen so far in 2025.

These actions include financial penalties, suspension of approvals or authorisations, and official warnings.

The violations recorded by DGCA cover a wide range of safety lapses, including non-compliance with breath analyser rules for crew, failures in flight data monitoring, unauthorised cockpit access, and weak quality-assurance audits.

Other breaches involved the use of flight simulators without DGCA approval, deploying crew without mandatory training, and violations of Flight Duty Time Limitations.

Maintenance-related shortcomings were also identified, such as failure to follow proper procedures, deficiencies detected during spot checks, and even instances where aircraft were flown with expired emergency equipment.

The Minister stated that the government has been allocating funds to strengthen DGCA’s safety and regulatory oversight, with annual budget details shared in an annexure to Parliament.

He also revealed the vacancy status across four major aviation bodies: DGCA, Airports Authority of India (AAI), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), and the Air Traffic Controllers cadre.

The sanctioned posts and vacancies for each organisation were provided to highlight manpower gaps affecting safety and regulatory functions.
