ABVP Scores Decisive Win in DUSU Polls, Voters Brush Aside Rahul Gandhi’s Pitch

New Delhi – The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) secured a convincing victory in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, winning three of the four central posts and reclaiming the president’s position.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s appeal to youth over alleged “vote theft” and the NSUI’s promise of a “Mohabbat ki Dukaan” – a symbolic campaign for love, unity, and respect – failed to dent ABVP’s dominance. The Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) managed to retain only the vice-president’s post.

The outcome, which reverses NSUI’s partial gains from 2024, highlighted ABVP’s strong organisational presence, voter outreach, and focus on everyday campus issues. Its presidential candidate promised subsidised metro passes, free Wi-Fi, accessibility audits, and upgraded sports facilities, which resonated with pragmatic student concerns.

NSUI’s campaign emphasised safety, hostel welfare, free Wi-Fi, and leave benefits for female students, but it could not counter ABVP’s grassroots reach.

The result underscores ABVP’s growing campus penetration, often viewed as an extension of the BJP’s broader mobilisation. Analysts say the win resets the student-political balance at Delhi University and bolsters ABVP’s role in grooming future cadres for higher political platforms.
