District level committee will henceforth undertake social audit of Mnrega: Aalamgir

Ranchi: Rural Development Minister Aalamgir Aalam said that social audit of Mnrega will continue in the state however the work being executed by JSLPS has been verbally directed to be stopped and going forward a district-level committee will be formed which will undertake the social audit.

He said that social audit can not be stopped as it was important for quality however he pointed out that many MLAs had written letters demanding to do away with a social audit under Mnrega. He said that not only the MLAs but the mukhiyas and other people have also urged to stop the social audit.

Talking to the media after end of Janta Darbar at the JPCC office here he said that correct work should be held under Mnrega and the government will keep an eye on it. On the other hand right to food activist Balram after meeting the minister said that he has been urged that an independent unit should be formed at the state level undertake the social audit.

Social activist Jean Dreze claimed that Mnrega was in ICU in the state as the workers were not getting minimum wages and even the money was not being paid on time. He demanded under the food security act the provision of providing Rs 6000 to the pregnant woman should be implemented in the state.
