Candidates will have to share details of criminal cases

Ranchi: Candidates contesting the assembly elections will have to advertise in newspapers and electronic channels regarding the criminal cases that have been levelled against them.

The information regarding the cases registered against them have to be shared in the newspaper and electronic channels three times in three days for which the deadline has been set for two days before the elections.

Moreover, the candidates will also have to detail the sections which have been imposed on them. The election commission of India has prepared 12 font sizes for the candidates to share the advertisement.

The political parties have been asked to give details of the candidates on their websites regarding the candidates who are facing criminal cases and against whom offences have been proved. The ECI following the directions of the Supreme Court for the FIR's time had implemented this decision in the Lok Sabha polls of 2019.

Earlier the candidates were required to share the information regarding the filing of nominations in the affidavit however in the Lok Sabha polls most the candidates had ignored the suggestions.

For the use of helicopters, the political parties will have to seek approval from the electoral officer three days before and thereafter they will be able to use the helicopters.

Further, it has been made mandatory to detail the name of the printer and publisher in the printing materials to be used in the advertisement for different political parties.
