
Ranchi: In a major boost to the cleanliness mission, “Swacchta Abhiyan”, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Ranchi signed a Tripartite MOU with South Eastern Railways and RITES for building toilet blocks at 200 Railway stations spread across Jharkhand.
Each toilet block will have a provision for 07 toilets – 03 for Women, 03 for Men and most importantly 01 for Divyangs. The stations are spread across the remotest part of the state in difficult terrains and forest areas.
We have taken up this herculean task under the dynamic leadership of Gopal Singh CMD CCL. This is one of the many initiatives that started off in the last few years for social transformation by the company.
GM (CSR), CCL A K Singh signed the MOU award on behalf of CCL along with P R Kumar, GM, RITES and Abhijit Rai, Planning & Design Engineer, SE Railways on 1st October 2019.
These toilets will be built at the cost of Rs 44 Crore. At the time, when Railway Ministry under the able guidance of Hon’ble minister Piyush Goyal has transformed major Railway stations with beautification, modernization and cleanliness drive, this MOU will give a shot in the arm to the mission. CCL has contributed substantially to the “Swacchta Abhiyan” and played a role in creating an “Open Defecation Free (ODF)” India.
The company has built almost 12,000 Toilets across 4 states namely Jharkhand, Orissa, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The company has launched a series of welfare schemes, better known as “Kayakalp Yojana” in the field of sports, education, health, skill development, drinking water etc. across 8 districts of Jharkhand.
CCL as a responsible corporate citizen is committed towards inclusive growth. The company has taken up several initiatives for young and talented children and youths of scheduled tribes in the field of Sports. While Sports Academy has been a flagship scheme, but in addition to it, CCL has identified close to 250 football teams in its command area to promote Sports in the rural regions of Jharkhand.
In Simdega, for the past two years CCL has been organizing junior boys & girls Hockey tournaments in which maximum participation has been from the tribal community. Similarly, CCL has been regularly organizing various tournaments, to promote sports spirit and identify the hidden talent from these tribal regions.
Conceptualized by Hon’ble Minister of Coal and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Hon’ble Chief Minister, Jharkhand, Raghubar Das, the academy started in July 2016. Sports Academy has come of age in very short
span of time.
Majority of its young cadets, who come from remote, backward and disadvantaged part of the state, have added many feathers to the cap of the academy in no time by making into medal tally at various state and national level meets.
The endeavor of Gopal Singh CMD CCL to ensure that these young cadets get best of all worlds, be it training, facilities, infrastructure, diet or the coaches. The academy has become the most sought-after academies of Jharkhand. This year almost 3,00,000 applicants went through selection trial organized across 24 districts of Jharkhand and finally 100 students were selected after rigorous selection trials, which makes it to ratio of 3000:1 for applicants and finally selected cadets, demonstrating its popularity.
Currently, 437 sports cadets are being trained at the academy along with free schooling, food, boarding and lodging. In the education sector, CCL’s flagship schemes like “CCL ke Lal &Laadli” are platforms designed for the development of the children, who mostly come from the backward area of Jharkhand so that they can compete with others in various engineering competitive exams for IITs, NITs etc. across India.“Kayakalp Public School” at Bukru, Ranchi admits only the children of the poorest of the poor.
