10 gates of Maithon Dam opened as Damodar flows 5 feet above danger level

Dhanbad/Bokaro: The heavy rainfall in Dhanbad and Bokaro district and its adjoining area for the last 24 hours has thrown the normal life completely out of gear.

On Sunday 10 gates of the Maithon Dam was opened from which 45,000 cusec of water was released into the river, on the other hand, five gates of the Tenughat Dam were also opened from which 50000 cusec of water was released in the Damodar River due to which it over flooded.

However, on Sunday one of the gates was closed but despite that 22290 cusecs of water was being released in the river from the dam. On Saturday evening the water level of the Damodar river had reached 473 RL which was five RL above the danger level.

The weather department has predicted that rains would continue till October 2nd. On the other hand, the district administration was keeping an eye on the water levels in the dams and also in the Damodar River.

The downpour has badly hit the routine life in the city as in many low-lying areas water has got inside the home and roads have been submerged in the waters.

On the other hand, Dhanbad DC Amit Kumar said that some damage to houses have been reported in the district and after an assessment is made over the losses by the district disaster management department the house owners would be provided compensation.

He said that the alert for the rainfall has been issued and the administration was keeping an eye on the situation.
