Jharkhand cabinet approves Insurance Scheme for journalists

Ranchi: After deciding to provide pension to the journalists working in the state the Jharkhand government has also decided to provide them with life insurance cover under ‘Mukhyamantri Patrakar Jeevan Bima Yojana’. A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the state cabinet which was chaired by Chief Minister Raghubar Das at the project building here.

As per the decision, the state government has decided to provide the accredited journalist in the state insurance cover under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and the premium in this regard would be paid by the Information and Public Relations Department Government of Jharkhand.

The amount to be incurred on the premium for these two schemes would be paid from the welfare fund formed for the journalist. Under the policy in case of a demise of a journalist under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana the kin would be provided Rs 2 lakh in case of accidental death under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana the family members would be getting Rs 2 lakh and in case of complete disability Rs 2 lakh would be provided and for partial disability Rs 1 lakh would be given.  

The government has also provided a clause under which in case journalist dies in accident then his family members would get Rs 4 lakh as benefit from both the insurance schemes. In Another key decision by the State government, it has also decided to make amendments in the guidelines issued for providing various types of pensions under the women child development and social welfare department as now the benefit of the scheme will be provided in the rural areas by the approval of the Block Development Officer and in the urban area through the approval of circle officers as earlier any person could only avail the benefits of the various social security schemes only after approval received from the sub-divisional officer.

The cabinet has also decided to increase the maximum age limit for service of the Anganwadi sevika and sahayika from 60 years to 62 years. Further, it has been also decided to form a welfare fund for the para teachers BRP CRP and teachers teaching on contract basis at Kasturba Gandhi Balika schools.
