Police recovered a massive cache of explosives suspected to have been intended for Maoist guerrillas during a raid in Pakur district of Jharkhand on Monday, officials said.
Acting on a tip-off, Pakur Superintendent of Police (SP) Shailendra Kumar led a raid at a house in Sharpur village, where the explosives were found concealed.
Police seized around 10,000 gelatin sticks, 10,000 detonators and 65 sacks of ammonium nitrate from the house belonging to Bhagat Murmu, according to the SP.
The scale of the recovery raised serious security concerns, particularly because explosives of this type can be used for large-scale blasts and are often sought by insurgent groups operating in areas affected by left-wing extremism.
No arrests had been made immediately after the seizure. Police, however, launched a search operation to identify and apprehend those allegedly involved in storing and transporting the explosives.
Investigators were also expected to examine the source of the material and determine its intended destination. The recovery could provide important leads about the supply network involved in the suspected movement of explosives.
The seizure is significant for Jharkhand, which has historically faced challenges from Maoist violence in several districts. Preventing the movement of explosives and disrupting supply networks remains an important part of security operations against left-wing extremist groups in the state.
