Lightning claims 14 lives in Jharkhand including 6 in Jamtara

Ranchi: 14 people lost their lives spread across five districts of the state including a maximum of six people in Jamtara district as lightning fell upon them.

Police said that six people had gone to take bath in a pond under Sadar Police Station area of this district however as it started raining they took shelter under culvert when suddenly lightning fell killing five of them on the spot while one sustained injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Ruplal Hembrom, Indersen Hembram, Sanjay Hembram, Sunil Hembram and Parimal Marandi. The second incident also took in Bindapathar where an old woman died as lightning fell upon her. In Ranchi, a couple of men who were working in their farms in Bukatoli under Chanho Police Station area lost their lives as lightning fell upon them.

The deceased included Vishwa Oraon (50) and Anil Oraon (30). Meanwhile, a report from Dumka said that a man and a girl lost their lives as lightning struck in Orabari under Sariyahaat Police Station area. The deceased included Sashi Yadav (50) and Sunit Kumari (11). A girl Ruchi Kumari (8) was also injured in the incident.

These people were working in the field when lightning fell. In Giridih Vijay Verma (30) and Santoshi Paswan (35) as lightning fell in Birni while in Chota Kenduwa village of Hiranpur of Pakur district couple of women labourers also fell victim to lightning fall.
