Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Saturday announced financial assistance of Rs 5 crore to Kerala, which was battling one of its worst flood disasters in recent history.
The assistance was announced as Kerala faced widespread devastation caused by torrential rains, overflowing rivers and landslides, with large numbers of people displaced from their homes.
A statement issued by the Jharkhand government said Das had expressed deep concern over the situation in Kerala and decided to extend financial support to the flood-affected state.
In a message, the Chief Minister said the people of Jharkhand stood firmly with Kerala during the crisis.
“3.25 crore people of Jharkhand are with Kerala in this disastrous situation arisen due to flood,” Das said in a tweet.
The Rs 5 crore contribution was intended to support relief and rehabilitation efforts in Kerala, where government agencies, armed forces and disaster-response teams were engaged in rescuing stranded people and providing essential supplies.
The gesture also reflected the spirit of inter-state solidarity during a major natural disaster, with governments and citizens from different parts of India extending support to Kerala.
At a time when Kerala was facing enormous challenges in providing shelter, food, medical assistance and other necessities to thousands of displaced families, financial contributions from other states were expected to help strengthen the ongoing relief operations and support the long recovery process.
