Deoghar: Police arrested two alleged cyber fraudsters from Turipahari village under Palajori police station limits on Friday for reportedly cheating people by impersonating customer care executives and banking officials.
According to police, the arrests followed a tip-off that the accused were posing as representatives of e-commerce and digital payment platforms, including Flipkart, Amazon and PhonePe, as well as officials of Airtel Payments Bank. They allegedly lured victims with promises of PM-Kisan benefits and loan assistance.
The arrested accused were identified as Sameer Ansari (27), a resident of Dhawa village under Palajori police station, and Neeraj Kumar Das (20), from Govindpur village under Pathrol police station.
Police said the accused allegedly impersonated representatives of Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and IRCTC to offer cashback and tricked victims into creating PhonePe gift cards, which they subsequently redeemed.
They also allegedly posed as Airtel Payments Bank officials and cheated customers on the pretext of reactivating their bank cards through the Airtel Thanks app.
Police seized two mobile phones and four SIM cards from the accused. A preliminary examination of the devices indicated their alleged involvement in cyber fraud.
