Continuous rainfall over the past two days under the influence of Cyclone Arnab has damaged several houses in Chundri Panchayat of Gumla district, leaving affected families struggling to find safe shelter and protect their household belongings.
Several kutcha and structurally weak houses suffered damage, including collapsed or damaged walls, in Beti, Patratoli, Jagunu Toli and Mahugaon villages.
Among those affected are Somro Devi, Dilip Oraon, Ranjita Kumari, Muni Devi and Manju Bara, along with several other villagers. The affected residents informed Chundri Panchayat Mukhiya Vinita Kumari about the damage to their homes.
Vinita Kumari said details of all houses damaged by the rainfall in the panchayat area had been submitted to the circle office. She added that applications would be filed to help the affected families receive government compensation and that the necessary procedures would be completed.
The affected families have urged the circle administration to assess the damage at the earliest and provide appropriate compensation. Villagers have also appealed for immediate relief and assistance.
