Panic gripped the Prem Nagar locality of Ranchi early Friday morning after unidentified assailants opened more than half a dozen rounds of fire at the residence of a coal trader, triggering fear among residents.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place at around 4 a.m. The attackers targeted the businessman’s house and fled after firing several shots. They also left behind a handwritten note at the scene in which the Rahul Dubey gang reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.
The coal trader had allegedly received threats earlier as well. The latest firing incident is suspected to be an attempt to intimidate him and create fear in the area.
Police have launched an investigation following the incident. Officers are collecting evidence from the spot and examining the note left behind by the attackers. They are also trying to identify those involved in the firing and establish the motive behind the attack.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of businesspeople in Ranchi amid reports of repeated threats and firing incidents. Police are yet to establish the identity of the assailants or independently verify the gang’s claim of responsibility.
