Acting on orders from District Magistrate Saurabh Kumar Bhuvania, Food Safety officials carried out inspections at several food outlets in Sarwan on Thursday and destroyed expired products found during the checks.
Teams visited Goras Ice Cream, Anmol Ice and Ice Cream, Jai Mata Di Sweets, Chaudhary Sweets and Soumya Sweets to examine food quality, hygiene and compliance with safety norms. At Anmol Ice and Ice Cream, 13 bottles of expired ice cream flavouring were seized. At Soumya Sweets, 20 bottles of expired Mazakold cold drink were recovered and destroyed with the owner’s consent.
Officials also checked jalebis, balushahi and other sweets at the three sweet shops. Artificial food colouring was detected in jalebis and balushahi at Chaudhary Sweets, prompting further action.
Notices have been issued to the establishments concerned for selling expired items and violating food safety standards. Businesses have been directed to regularly check manufacturing and expiry dates, keep their food licences valid, and maintain proper hygiene. Consumers have been advised to verify expiry dates before buying any food product.
The inspections were conducted by Food Safety Officers Shailesh Kumar Yadav and Anjali Viva Minz.
