Kanke police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with an arms recovery case and seized a 7.65 mm country-made pistol, a live cartridge and a mobile phone from his possession. Two juveniles were also apprehended during the operation.
According to police, Bablu Nayak, a resident of Manatu village, submitted a written complaint on October 5 alleging that Hemant Munda and two other youths had threatened to kill his son. Based on the complaint, police registered a Sanha entry and launched an investigation while conducting raids to locate the suspects.
During the investigation, police received information at around 9 p.m. on October 7 that some suspicious persons were present near the Sangrampur overbridge. Acting on the information, a police team led by Kanke police station in-charge Kunal Kumar conducted a raid at the spot.
Police apprehended Hemant Munda alias Hemanand Munda, 21, son of Sarhul Munda and a resident of Hochar, along with two juveniles.
During a search, police allegedly recovered a 7.65 mm country-made pistol from Hemant Munda, along with a live cartridge bearing the marking “KF 7.65” and a Redmi Note Pro mobile phone. A Realme 5 Pro mobile phone was also recovered from one of the juveniles. Police said all the items were seized following due procedure.
A case has been registered at Kanke police station under Case No. 206/26, dated October 7, 2026, invoking Sections 25(1-B)a, 26 and 35 of the Arms Act.
Hemant Munda alias Hemanand Munda has been sent to judicial custody, while the process of sending the two juveniles to a juvenile correctional facility is underway.
The police team involved in the raid included Kanke police station in-charge Kunal Kumar, Sub-Inspectors Tanzil Khan, Arvind Kumar and Satish Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Bhim Singh, and armed personnel of Kanke police station.
The recovery of the firearm came during an investigation into alleged threats issued to a local resident, with police continuing to investigate the circumstances in which the weapon was obtained and the alleged involvement of the other suspects.
