Deoghar Congress Seeks Greater Transparency in Electoral Roll Revision

The Deoghar district unit of the Congress has raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and called for greater transparency in the process, particularly in cases involving deletion and restoration of voters’ names.

District Congress president Rajendra Das said the party wanted safeguards to ensure that eligible citizens are not excluded from electoral rolls. He also demanded clear information on the procedures followed during the revision exercise and sought the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the process was affecting citizens’ voting rights.

Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Abdul Karim Ansari said the issue went beyond the conduct of elections and involved ensuring that every eligible citizen was able to exercise the right to vote.

Another state Congress spokesperson, Pradeep Pandey, called for greater transparency in the process of deleting names from electoral rolls and restoring them. He demanded that records relating to objections, scrutiny and decisions taken during the SIR exercise be made publicly accessible.

Pandey also sought a simpler Form-6 process for first-time voters and other eligible citizens seeking inclusion in the electoral roll. He said the Congress respected the constitutional independence of the Election Commission but maintained that transparency and accountability were necessary in the electoral roll revision process.

District Congress vice-president Dineshanand Jha, town president Ravi Keshri, Deepak Kumar Singh and other party workers were present during the programme.
