Gumla Congress to Hold Protest Over SIR and Voter List Issues on September 28

The Gumla District Congress Committee will hold a protest on September 28 over issues related to the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the process of adding names to voter lists and concerns linked to citizens’ voting rights.

The protest will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of the Gumla Collectorate. District Congress Committee president Rajniel Tigga has appealed to senior party leaders, office-bearers and workers to participate in the programme in large numbers.

Tigga said the protest is being organised following directions from Jharkhand Congress in-charge K. Raju and state Congress president Keshav Mahato Kamlesh. He said representatives from various party units and frontal organisations are expected to attend the demonstration.

These include the city, block and mandal committees, Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, NSUI, Minority Department, Seva Dal, Kisan Congress, Adivasi Congress and the OBC Department, along with other party functionaries and workers.

Tigga urged office-bearers to attend the programme along with members of their respective committees. Senior Congress functionaries responsible for overseeing the programme are also expected to be present.

The protest comes amid wider political debate over the electoral roll revision process and the procedures through which eligible citizens can have their names included or corrected in voter lists.
