MLA Jairam Mahto’s Anticipatory Bail Plea to Be Heard Tuesday in Dhanbad Court

The anticipatory bail plea filed by Dumri MLA Jairam Mahto and three other accused in a case involving allegations of obstructing government work, manhandling police personnel, abusing officials and issuing threats will come up for hearing on Tuesday before the special MP-MLA court in Dhanbad.

On Monday, the court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge in Dhanbad transferred the anticipatory bail applications to the special court designated to hear cases involving MPs and MLAs. Senior advocate Shahnawaz appeared on behalf of the accused and said the bail pleas have been listed for hearing on Tuesday.

Apart from Jairam Mahto, the three others who have approached the court seeking anticipatory bail are Sushil Mandal, Mahendra Saw and Raj Kumar Mandal.

The case relates to Barwadda police station case number 146/26. An FIR was registered at Barwadda police station on August 22, 2026, based on a complaint by Station House Officer Ravi Kumar, naming Mahto and several others.

The FIR names Jairam Mahto, Sushil Mandal, Dilip Chaudhary, Raj Kumar Mandal, Jitendra Hazari, Ajay Das, Golak Kumar Mahto, Mahendra Saw, Ranjit Kumar Saw, Rajesh Mahto and Tripurari Pandey, along with other supporters.

According to the police version recorded in the FIR, Ganesh Das had been arrested in connection with a case and was being held in the lock-up at Barwadda police station. After learning about his arrest, Mahto allegedly reached the police station with around 40 to 50 supporters.

The police have alleged that Mahto behaved inappropriately with police officers and asked his supporters to bring Ganesh Das out of the lock-up. Some of the supporters allegedly moved towards the lock-up, following which police personnel attempted to stop them.

The FIR alleges that Mahto pushed the station house officer while the police were trying to prevent the group from moving towards the lock-up.

### Police allege scuffle and abuse inside station

The FIR further alleges that some of the supporters accompanying the MLA entered the station house officer's office and engaged in an altercation with police personnel. They have also been accused of abusing the officers.

According to the police, Dilip Chaudhary allegedly punched the station house officer's desk and damaged a nameplate kept there. Police have alleged that the disruption inside the police station interfered with the official duties of police personnel.

These are allegations contained in the FIR, and the charges are yet to be established before a court.

The anticipatory bail pleas of Jairam Mahto, Sushil Mandal, Mahendra Saw and Raj Kumar Mandal will now be considered by the special MP-MLA court on Tuesday. The court's decision will determine whether the four accused receive protection from arrest while the case proceeds.
