Controversial Remarks on Muslims Cost Two Jharkhand Congress Leaders Their Party Membership

The Jharkhand unit of the Congress has taken disciplinary action against two of its own leaders following allegations that they made derogatory and objectionable remarks about Muslims.

State Congress vice-president Abhilash Sahu and coordinator Amarendra Singh have been removed from the party following the controversy. The two leaders were accused of allegedly making fun of Muslims and making remarks considered inappropriate by the party.

The matter was taken up seriously after the comments came to the party's notice, prompting the Congress to initiate disciplinary proceedings. The case was examined at the level of the state disciplinary committee before a decision was taken against the two leaders.

According to the order issued by the party, Sahu and Singh have been suspended from the primary membership of the Congress with immediate effect. The action effectively prevents them from taking part in party activities while the disciplinary decision remains in force.

The decision has also been communicated to Jharkhand Congress in-charge K. Raju, co-in-charge Dr Sirivella Prasad and Bhupendra Maravi, along with senior party leaders, ministers, MPs and MLAs.

The action is being seen as a strong message from the state Congress leadership on maintaining discipline within the organisation. By acting against the two leaders over their alleged remarks, the party has sought to underline that public statements and conduct by its functionaries can invite disciplinary action when they are considered contrary to the party's standards.
