In a major drive to curb public nuisance, open drinking, drug use and other suspicious activities, Ranchi Police conducted a coordinated checking operation across the city on Saturday evening. Police teams simultaneously raided and inspected more than 50 sensitive and strategic locations under different police station areas.

The operation focused on places where incidents of public drinking, unruly behaviour and suspicious gatherings have frequently been reported. Police teams carried out checks at Firayalal Chowk, Albert Ekka Chowk, Main Road, OTC Ground, DIG Ground, Morabadi Maidan and the Smart City area. Isolated stretches along the Ring Road, vacant plots and areas around liquor shops were also kept under close watch.

Special checks were conducted at roadside eateries, kiosks and other gathering points located near liquor shops. Police personnel questioned and searched suspicious individuals and also inspected vehicles during the operation. People found unnecessarily gathering at sensitive spots or engaging in suspicious activities were asked to leave the area.

Senior police officers monitored the operation in real time. Officers at the SP level kept track of the drive, while DSPs and police station in-charges were present on the ground with their respective teams. The coordinated approach was aimed at ensuring that vulnerable areas across the city were covered simultaneously.

According to the police, more than 100 people were detained during the operation for allegedly drinking in public places, behaving unruly or moving around under suspicious circumstances. They were released after being warned against repeating such activities. Their names and addresses were also recorded by the police for future reference.

Police officials said the operation was aimed not only at taking immediate action against anti-social elements but also at creating a sense of security among residents. Particular attention is being given to preventing harassment, substance abuse, public disorder and street-level criminal activities, especially in areas frequented by women, children and senior citizens.

The police said habitual offenders and individuals involved in anti-social activities would remain under surveillance and that similar operations would be conducted regularly across Ranchi.

Ranchi Police has appealed to residents to report suspicious activities, public nuisance or incidents of harassment immediately by dialling 112 or contacting the nearest police station. The police have also urged citizens to cooperate with checking operations, which are intended to improve safety and maintain law and order in the city.
