Students of Santa Public School in Shastri Nagar, Gumla, got an opportunity to learn about the functioning of government departments through an educational tour organised on Wednesday on the occasion of World Photography Day and World Humanitarian Day.

Students from Classes 3 to 10 visited several government offices in Gumla as part of the programme. The objective was to take learning beyond the classroom and give students a practical understanding of how government institutions function, what services they provide and how different departments interact with the public.

The educational tour began with a visit to the Gumla SDPO office, where the students met SDPO Suresh Prasad Yadav. He explained the role of the police in maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety. The students were also told about the different responsibilities handled at police stations and how police personnel respond to various situations.

Yadav encouraged the students to concentrate on their studies and work towards becoming responsible citizens.

Students learn about postal services

The group then visited the Gumla Head Post Office, where Postmaster Shiv Shankar Thakur, along with Rajesh Kumar Mahto, Niranjan Ohdar and Shahnawaz Anwar, introduced the students to various services offered by the postal department.

The students learned about cash transactions, passport services, India Post Payments Bank, Speed Post and postage stamps. Officials also informed them about a rakhi-making competition currently being organised by the postal department, which generated considerable enthusiasm among the students.

Understanding the role of the Circle Office

The students also visited the Gumla Circle Officer's office, where Circle Officer Harish Kumar explained the functioning of the Circle Office and its role in delivering various government services and implementing administrative processes.

He explained that the Circle Office deals with several important matters that directly affect residents and plays a significant role in local administration.

Practical learning beyond textbooks

School Director Hemant Kumar said education should not be restricted to textbooks and classrooms. According to him, students also need to understand how society, administration and public institutions function in real life.

“Through today's educational tour, our students got an opportunity to understand the functioning of the police department, postal department and Circle Office from close quarters. Such programmes make learning more practical and help develop curiosity, confidence and a sense of responsibility among children,” he said.

The students actively participated throughout the visit and asked officials questions about different departments and public services. Many students described the experience as informative and memorable.

Teachers Cynthia Kachhap, Nandeshwari Kumari, Ajit Lakra, Ankita Kumari, Norbert Beck, Sunita Devi, Veena Devi and other teachers accompanied the students during the educational tour.
